Animal Training

One my greater interests is animals and their ability to do the amazing. This blog is to help other people teach their animals to do what ever their owners ask.

Kids and understanding them has been a passion of mine for about 20 years, it wasn't til I had a child of my own (Skye), that I was able to get to know so much more than I had previously known. I live solely for one purpose, and that is to be with my amazingly wonderful wife Tracy. And my daughter Skye and the newest member of my family Willow our beautiful daughter. It has been quite some time since I have updated this blog. I have had another new addition my family a few years ago now. A little boy called Declan as I call him The Little bugger.

Train A Pig Part 2

For basics in training read the first part of Pig Training, Train A Pig Part 1

Learning to Kiss:-

Your pig must be quite gentle before she is ready to give you a big wet one. Snapping at a treat is a sure sign of not being ready. One way to make your pig more gentle is to give a treat in very small pieces, this will encourage her to open her mouth less. Now she is ready to give you a kiss. Place a small reward (food) between your lips, and offer this to the pig, when the pig takes the reward (making sure that your lips touches the pigs lips), say "good piggy, kiss". Repeat this process time and time again, making the rewards smaller until there is no reward left.

Train a Pig

The best method of training your pig is to reward your wonderful pet with a small portion of food, such as a slice of apple, watermelon or what ever your pet pig loves to eat, not to much though, just enough that the pig will want more. When your pig does something that you want him to do, reinforce his actions with the reward that has been mentioned.

What Tricks Can You Teach Your Pig...............

A pig can learn to:-
Sit on command .
Kiss .
Shake Hands .
Turn circles on the spot .
Leap through a hoop (better make it a low level one, or over any object .
And Lie down .

To limit the size of this post I shall only be talking about learning to sit, future posts will cover all other tricks that a pig can be taught.

  • Learning to Sit:- Firstly place the rear end of the pig into a corner (now that should be a bit of fun in itself), once there, say "sit", then motion the pig to sit, making sure that you have a reward at the ready. When the pig sits, give him the reward straight away. Repeat the process until your pig can sit on your command.
